The medical and healthservices managers are the planners, directors and coordinators who work the behind a scene to keep the hospitals, nursing homes, group practices and other the health care facilities running efficiently. In the short, they are super-organized professionals. Then medical and health services managers are usually extremely detail-oriented people with a good analytical skills. Because much of their times is spent to working with a doctors, health insurance representatives and other administrators, they should be also having good interpersonal and the communication skills. This high demand for more medical and health services managers is driven by the large baby boomer population needing more health care in hospitals, group practices and nursing homes as they age. It’s also driven by the uptick in group practices and the need for managers and administrators to helm these facilities.
Then demand
for medical and health care is unlike the demand for most consumer products and
services because while the desire for consumer products and services comes from
direct consumption, the desire for health care is not derived directly from the
consumption of the medical procedures themselves; rather, it comes from the
direct value of improved health that is produced by health care. For example,
demand for an MP3 player is based on the enjoyment that brings to a consumer,
but few would choose to get a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the same reason.
Rather, a consumer’s desire to have her gallbladder removed is directly related
to the positive impact the operation is likely to have on her health.
Understanding how health is produced, demanded, and valued is a useful starting
point for evaluating the health care system and health care policy.
The Medical and
Health Care Plan is the national health strategy to establish a system to
provide high quality and appropriate medical care. It promotes a division of
roles and cooperation of medical functions in order to provide continued
